Born and raised in San Diego, Brea Joseph has had art in her blood since birth. Brea comes from an artist family. Her mother was a freelance portrait artist, grandmother a painter, and brother a graphic designer. While attending SCPA, school of creative and performing arts, Brea discovered a passion for the arts that would eventually lead to her career.
While working as a freelance makeup artist in 2011 ,Brea landed a spot on the hit syfy's tv series face off, a special effects make up reality competition show. The show gained her exposure. Soon after face off, Brea was featured on syfy's "Naked and Painted", a show that highlighted well renowned and up and coming body painters of the world.
Brea started a successful special effects company KBZ FX in early 2011. The company fabricates costumes and props for film and television and also specializes in injury simulation make up and devices for combat and medical training. Brea has been featured in magazines like Make Up Artist Magazine, Rue Morgue, and Monsterpalooza. She has worked with companies like 2K Games, Brookstone stores, Sony Online Entertainment, 20/20, Captain Morgan, and Skull candy. Brea is sponsored by paint company European Body Art and air brush company Paasche. KBZ FX has been highlighted on CNN, the PBS show Start Up, and numerous military and medical publications.
In 2014, Brea started to focus on her art by becoming a San Diego Museum of Art guild member, and soon after a guild member to San Diego's Spanish Village, located in San Diego's historic Balboa Park. Brea has been selling and creating art for festivals and trade shows all over southern California for the last fours years, but in the last two years has decided to try to build a presence and make a name for herself in the art community . Her art has been featured in the "New Member" show at Gallery 21 in Balboa Park , Gallery 21 "Elements" show, 2015 Long Beach Art walk , Monsterpalooza 2013-2016, IMATS 2014,2015, LA art guides "paint your city", the La Jolla Festival of Arts, and the Light Space and Time Gallery's "All Woman" show were she received a special merit award for here work "Day of the Native".
Brea describes her work as eclectic with no particular theme, just what ever she is feeling. She uses bright vivid colors in her paintings and often incorporates her hand sculpted resin pieces into her work .
